Border crossing - back to Chile

After Malargue,  we drove east through the Andes again and this time went thru a different Customs office.  No problems in either the Argentine Customs or Chile Customs but I did use the bathrooms in both because we stopped at a beautiful mountain lake in between to eat some lunch and stretch.   it is a huge natural lake high in the cordillera and it was cold and windy up there with some patches of snow.

Lower, the river is dammed for electric power, as are many of Chile's rivers.  There is quite a bit of copper mined here too and sometimes water is diverted from the rivers to the mines.  Water is a political issue, like in our west.

Comparisons: The Argentine side toilet was a rickety old building with a hole in the ground type of toilet with no paper and no running water.  The Chile side was clean , flush toilet with t.p. and soap at the sink.   Driving over from Argentina was miles of dirt road but they have paved sections and some day it will be nice.  The Chile side was newly paved and beautiful.   Chile is definitely more prosperous and also a much smaller country.  Interesting.

Some photos of various sites:

On the drive

mountain laguna (smaller than a lake).  It was huge tho.
