Thanksgiving and Christmas 2016

Thanksgiving!   Road trip!
Scott, his son Jordan, and I drove to Rock Island for Scott's Mom's 85th birthday celebration. Started in a blizzard but got clear. I got to see K2!  Had a great time with Scott's family.
Then I went to see my family in Manhattan.
Then Scott came to Manhattan for Thanksgiving and the day before. He met my family.
Then we drove back to Colorado.  Long drives!  Good visits!

Christmas - I flew to O'Hare in Chicago, Illinois then took the L downtown to meet Johnny Belom at the Field Museum.  Then we rode the Metra back to Tinley Park and he drove me to Vicki's.  Fun day but oh so cold and windy in the Windy City.

The family time was mostly great!  Christmas eve eve at Vicki's with great food and the Santa Hat game.  Mom and Dad are still getting by with caregivers altho they arem't there when I'm there.  Parent duty is tough!  Ronnie brought Joann P. and Gianna over so we could make dog balls one day.  Christmas at Craig's with us and Kelly's family.  The kids are so excited and sweet!

Winter runs with DGz

We celebrated my birthday and Steph's birthday in December, and had some good runs before it got really cold!  Life is good.

August Backpack to Wind River Range!

Base Camp backpack trip in Wind River Range.  Wow, it's beautiful and not like Colorado!  With the usual suspects....
And Ann's birthday weekend hikes at Devil's Thumb outside of Winter Park!
Also, many Sunday runs in beautiful Boulder County.  Thanks Dirty Girlz.

Sept C&O Canal and GAP week long bike ride

My week long trip was booked with Adventure Cycling.  Here's the link

Day 1- Meet the group of apprx. 70 riders at a hotel in Washington DC for dinner, instructions, get rental bike, etc.  My new friends are Robyn & Ed from Missoula, their friend Warren, and my roommate from MD, and John from MD? who also turns 60 this year.
Day 2 - ride starts along C&O Canal (where horses pulled barges of goods)! Unpaved, a bit rough but I'm in great shape except for my aching lower back. Lush, green, warm day, perfect. We follow the Potomac River for several days. Camp in tent!  Breakfast buffet in camp, lunch to go on the ride, dinner buffet in camp.
Day 3 - RAIN!  Soaked but it was warm along C&O Canal - historic & beautiful.  No fall colors yet.
Day 4 - Very wet morning but cleared up.  Great people, some singles, good guides, fabulous food.  Loving it.
Day 5 - Last day on the C&O Canal - Paw Paw tunnel was long, cold, dark, and pretty cool.
Day 6 - Transferred to GAP (Great Allegheny Passage rail trail) at Cumberland, MD.  It's a little smoother ride and a little easier.  Still no fall colors but tons of water & we rode over the Eastern Continental Divide.
Day 7 - Visited one of Frank Lloyd Wright's houses. And enjoyed the ride, the friends, and the scenery.
Day 8 - Ended ride in Pittsburg after a great day of riding!  Then the bus took us back to Arlington and our hotel. I got the metro to Dave & Richard's house and have an early flight home in the morning.
The trip was PERFECT in every way!  Loved it!
States I bagged:  Washington DC (again), Virginia, West Virginia (short detour), Maryland, Pennsylvania.
