Roman arena at Pula

Half of the seating is intact.
Looking over some below-ground rooms that are partially dug out
I was there! The wooden railings and lights are a distraction but necessary.
View from the seaside
Pula is at the tip of the large peninsula in northern Croatia called Istria.  It's very close to Italy and is more wet and lush than the rest of the coast.  It's also very Italian.  The big attraction in Pula is the Roman gladiator arena that is very well preserved and huge!  It took my breath away and I could not take it all in because it's that awe inspiring.  So sad to think of all the blood shed there for sport but those Romans were amazing builders.
From the tourist bureau. ...I'd love to go to a concert here!  ....On my bucket list.
Half of the seating is intact but the other side had only ruins of where the bleachers were.  They are excavating some of the hundreds of rooms below ground level. The sea side was 3 tiers high and the back on the hill is 2 tiers.
More about the arena.
