Yay! I'm NOT stuck in Munich

 Dubrovnik, Croatia

My next trip is to the Balkan Peninsula - eastern Europe.  Across the Adriatic from Italy's boot!  And I was supposed to be there now but something bad happened and then something good happened.  I'm still in Longmont though.

Bad - the Lufthansa pilots went on strike on Sept. 9, the day I was to leave Denver to Munich, Germany to Sarajevo, Bosnia on one of their flights.

Also bad - I booked my entire flight through United Airlines and they did not tell me my Lufthansa flight was canceled.  In fact they sent the email on Wednesday afternoon telling me to check in for my flight.

Good - a friend emailed me to say they may be delayed arriving in Sarajevo because of the pilot's strike.  Thanks to that heads up, I was able to rebook my flight through United, and avoiding any leg of it on Lufthansa!

That change gave me two more days at home that I could have been in Bosnia, but I will still meet my hiking group on Saturday in Sarajevo, as planned!  All good.

I'm lucky - I didn't fly on Wednesday and end up sitting in Munich indefinitely because my Lufthansa flight from there was cancelled!

Lesson - don't trust your U.S. airline to tell you what's happening with an overseas partner airline.  Check before you board the plane here in the U.S.

Another view of Dubrovnik

I will travel to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro and will be hiking and biking and touring historic and beautiful cities and 4 National Parks!  I'm meeting Kirin and Matt for another "Larry" trip!  Should be awesome....  More to come.
