Island of Korcula

Riding in to city of Korcula (Kor' chu la) on island of Korcula. ... defense tower on the right of photo from the old city walls.  Much of the walls remain and no cars are allowed in the old city.
Looking down to a bay on the coast on an uphill ride on Korcula
Walled city of Korcula ...an amazing place. Perfectly clean and restored to how it was.
Main promenade between medieval walls and the sea...wow!

Beautiful but...So many BFH's on our route!  (The H is for hills). We ride about 36 miles today with 3 huge uphill rides and one crazy serpentine downhill on a paved one lane road with some 18% grades.  Our guide said if they start in the town of Korcula (where we ended), people have to ride up that and many walk a lot.  I'm not sure they would really ask people to ride up what seems to be nearly impossible to even walk up, but in any case, it was cool to go down it!!  Warm sunshine and fabulous views with no wind in the afternoon.

The old walled city of Korcula  (kor chu la) is charming, small, beautiful and we're here overnight.  We had an interesting city tour before dinner.  This town is small but they had 2 places with great live music and in the winter they have a disco!  Windy again but nice enough to sit outside for music.

They grow grapes for eating and wine and olives for eating and oil, as do all the bigger islands.  I bought a carob brandy on Vis, a local favorite.  We saw carob pods on the ground there and on Korcula.

On Vis I also bought a dense fig cake called Hig, which is traditional and tastes good.  You can learn more online!
