Cairns and Great Barrier Reef!

From Uluru in the center we flew to Cairns on the northeast coast, state of Queensland.   What a hugeamazing!  ference in the terrain!   This coast has miles and miles of sandy beaches and is all mountainous rainforest.  So beautiful!

We stayed at a small beach town just north of the large city of Cairns (pronounced Cans) called Palm Cove and we could easily walk along the shops and restaurants that all faced the beach.  The surf was loud!

The highlight of this area for me was snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. It was unbelievably beautiful and I can't even describe all I saw under the water but it included 2 huge turtles, a milk shark, 2 giant clams, and many large and colorful fish and corals. I want to go back and do it again!

Me with friend Peggy
cute get up!  The suits help in case a jellyfish stings you.
I saw these and lots of colorful parrot fish palms on the coast where we got the boat
We sailed out to the reef for about 90 minutes.  Lots of people got sick.  It was rough and windy but amazing.
