Uluru and the Outback

The center of Australia is very dry and red with small bushes and few trees. This Outback goes on for miles and miles and miles. In the middle of it is a huge rock that is over three kilometers around and very high.
It is a sacred place to the Aboriginal people and is now a national park.

What most of us did not realize is how many caves and other rocky structures are part of this rock. We saw it at sunrise, at sunset, and we walked around it. It is a beautiful and interesting place.

The only other place to hike around there is another set of large rocks called Kata Tjuta.  They are different than the rock of Uluru and almost as beautiful.  Credit to Kirin for the awesome photo #2.

I almost forgot to mention the tiny little flies that are really bees that don't sting but cover your face and make you crazy and that is why we wore those attractive  nets over our heads all the time.
