It was an early but easy 3 hour flight from Auckland, NZ to Sydney, Australia. Unfortunately we had to check in for the flight at 3:30 am so we dropped off the rental car and got to the airport at 9:00pm ish. It's not easy to catch sleep in an airport....
Auckland is a beautiful city on a big beautiful bay. Not huge, easy to get around, bike friendly, really great. We were so lucky because the New Zealand world challenge triathlon happened on Sunday when we were there. We caught some of the elite women's event and all of the men's. I cheered for our USA participants. Pretty awesome to see the competition. And we each got schwag!...a free tri-shirt and sunglasses!
We had a delicious meal at one of the pier restaurants, went to the top of the city tower for 360 degree views, ate gelato, and enjoyed the place.
Sydney, Australia is huge, on bays, and full of walkways, marinas, huge ships, hotels, restaurants, and more. I can't believe I walked up the steps of the Sydney Opera house and could see it and the Bay Bridge all at the same time, and as the sun set. Amazing! I'm here!
More to do: walk across the Bay Bridge and go up a pylon for views
Go to the aquarium to see local marine life
Visit Bondi Beach to enjoy sand and people watch, and much more...
I figured out public transportation and it is clean and easy. People have been friendly and helpful and sometimes they don't understand my accent and sometimes I don't understand them, but it's all English. Strange. All good!
