Rainforest, Kuranda, and the far north

This is an old post that I wrote but never published so I'm posting it now for myself.

From Cairns and Palm Cove we drove a bit to get to a mountain tourist town called Kuranda. We rode the refurbished railway up from the base, which was a piece of history, and then rode a modern and very high cable car over the rainforest to come down from the mountain. It was hot and so humid and the rainforest was amazing with very dense with vegetation.
This area is near the equator and warm all year but December through March are the rainy months so better to avoid them.

In the drive we saw a mob of about 100 wallabies eating in a field of grass in the morning.   The main crop here is sugar cane and fields are everywhere.   It is processed and exported from Cairns to Asia. They need seasonal workers! They also need help for 3 months to pick mangoes.  Interested?

We drove to the most northern point possible without 4-wheel drive - Cape Tribulation.   And we walked in the rainforest and walked the beach at low tide.  pretty, pretty!
