We spent two nights at the Forager Farm luxury cottages near the town of Pemberton. As in the coastal area of western Australia, the night sky is amazing because there is not much light pollution from towns! We've had a few clear nights to marvel at the milky way and thousands of stars. Here we don't see the dippers but we do see Orions Belt and the Southern Cross. We did long hikes both days in rainy weather on the Bibbulmun Track which goes for 623 miles like our Appalachian Trail :-( boo, rain.
This area of hiking and biking trails run through forest of Karri, Marri, and Jarra trees which have huge trunks, are extremely straight and are very tall with their branches way at the top and the Karri shed their bark. They are impressive. The trail section we hiked had a few hills but wasn't difficult and didn't have much variety but the forest was lush and peaceful.
The owner of Forager Farm is a chef and we had a fantastic meal there our first night -beautiful, fresh, local, delicious food. The second night, 12 of us cooked and ate together in one of the large cottages. We had a blast and ate well too.
Another highlight was the kangaroo lady and the orphan kangaroos she brings to Pemberton Visitor's Center twice weekly. We got to pet them and hang out with 4 baby kangaroos and a wallaby (the one with a light stripe around his chin and head).
